UE5: Metahumans
Because UE5 gives me the option to import any type of 3dish file (and ‘rig’ it to have bones), I have a lot of flexibility with the type of ‘avatars’ or ‘actors’ I want to use for NAMARA. UE5 gives creators loads of play with animation ability, and Metahuman seems to be ‘pre-rigged’ for that type of animation interaction. I also found some decently well rated iphone apps that allow you to create animations specifically for Metahuman ‘avatars’ and to allow real time talking, etc.
You can check out all of the bells and whistles here about Metahuman is you are interested, but I think you can see why I decided to try to use these as my actors in any NAMARA project moving forward. The video above is the basic ‘Romy’ I made for all of my testing and learning. While Gonje will be the person that decides on the final shape/mesh of the REAL Romy we use in production, this one was a little purple haired woman I whipped up on the Metahuman creator and did some testing with their base animations.
I love her - she’s got LOADS of personality. :)
